Introduction
This UX design project features an improved user experience for Instagram users who want to view multiple photos in a single post. Currently, Instagram displays only one photo at a time, requiring users to manually swipe through each photo. This design adds a thumbnail view, allowing users to easily see all of the photos in a post at once and quickly jump to specific photos. This makes it more efficient and enjoyable for users to view and interact with multi-photo posts on Instagram.
Problem Statement
The problem is that Instagram's current design for viewing multi-photo posts is frustrating and inconvenient for users. It requires manual swiping or tapping to view each photo, which can be time-consuming and lead to user frustration. This can negatively impact the overall user experience on the platform.
Project Goals
The goals of this UX design project are to improve the user experience for viewing multi-photo posts on Instagram, increase user engagement and satisfaction, reduce the time and effort required for users to view multi-photo posts, provide a clear and intuitive way to view and navigate through multi-photo posts, and enhance the overall user experience on Instagram.
Design Process
The design process for this project included the following steps:
-
Empathize
I conducted user research to understand the current challenges and frustrations users face when viewing multi-photo posts on Instagram. We also looked at similar platforms and designs like Facebook and Twitter to identify best practices and potential solutions.
-
Ideation
Based on my research, I brainstormed and developed a range of ideas for improving the user experience for viewing multi-photo posts on Instagram.
-
Prototyping
I created low-fidelity prototypes of my ideas and tested them with users to gather feedback and iterate on the designs. I finalized the designs based on user feedback and created high-fidelity prototypes for testing.
-
User Testing
I conducted user testing to validate the effectiveness of the designs and gather further feedback.

-
Iteration
Based on the results of user testing, I made any necessary changes and refinements to the designs.

Throughout this process, I followed a user-centred design approach, ensuring that the needs and feedback of users were at the centre of my decision-making. This allowed me to create a design that effectively addressed the problem and met the goals of the project.

Conclusion
The UX design project aimed to improve the user experience for viewing multi-photo posts on Instagram and was successful in meeting its goals. The new feature, which included a thumbnail view, significantly reduced the time and effort required for users to view multi-photo posts and was well-received in user testing. If implemented by Instagram, it can improve user engagement and satisfaction and enhance the overall user experience on the platform.
