Introduction

The Furniture Guy mobile app simplifies the process of purchasing furniture for a new home or workspace. Its user-friendly interface and minimalistic design make it easy to navigate and purchase furniture from the comfort of your own home in just a few minutes. With the Furniture Guy app, you can avoid the hassle of visiting a furniture showroom and easily find the perfect furniture for your space.

Problem Statement

One problem with purchasing furniture is that visiting showrooms can be inconvenient and time-consuming, especially for busy individuals or those with physical disabilities. It can also be difficult for those with mobility issues to navigate crowded showrooms. The current process of purchasing furniture can be frustrating and difficult for many people, and there is a need for a more convenient and accessible solution.

Goals

The Furniture Guy app aims to make the process of purchasing furniture as easy as possible by addressing the issues listed in the problem statement. The app is designed with easy-to-understand navigation, allowing users to easily sign in/sign up and complete their purchases. This is especially convenient for busy users, as the process takes minimal time.

Design Process

As a UI-UX designer, I employed the well-known 5 step design thinking process and it went a long way in helping me achieve a lot in this design.

  • Empathize

This was done to understand what the potential users would want. To do this, I conducted a short interview with a few people and the questions I asked them were:

  • Have you bought a piece of furniture before?

  • On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your experience at the showroom?

  • Did going to the showroom affect other activities that you would have wanted to do?

  • Would you have preferred the furniture store to have a website or an app for purchasing the furniture?

  • If yes, would you still go to the showroom?

  • Define

From the results of the research

  • 7 out of 8 people have bought furniture before

  • 6 out of 8 people rated their showroom experience below 5/10 which was poor

  • 7 out of 8 persons said that going to the showroom clashed with or interrupted other activities that they were doing

  • 7 out of 8 persons said that they would love to have for the furniture store to have a website or an app

  • 2 out of 8 persons said that they will still go to the showroom if the furniture store had a website or an app

The results of the interviews indicated a strong need for a furniture store website or app among users. It was emphasized that the app should be user-friendly and easy to navigate, as users have other commitments and activities that may clash with the process of purchasing furniture.

  • User Persona

Using the research results, I created user personas to guide my design process and inform design decisions.

  • Low Fidelity sketches

I found it crucial to sketch out the design of the app on paper in order to visualize it and identify any mistakes that needed to be corrected. This allowed me to make adjustments as needed.

  • High Fidelity Wireframes

These are the finished visual designs of major screens from the Furniture Guy mobile app.

  • Prototype

During this phase, the design was implemented and made functional. You can see a video of the prototype below.

  • Prototype

In conclusion, the Furniture Guy app was developed with the goal of making the process of purchasing furniture as easy and convenient as possible. Through extensive research and user interviews, I identified the challenges and needs of furniture shoppers and designed the app to address those issues. The user-friendly interface and streamlined navigation ensure that users can easily find and purchase the furniture they need without disrupting their daily activities. I believe that the Furniture Guy app offers a valuable solution to the problems faced by furniture shoppers and will be well-received by users.
